Two weeks after the fire, investigators tracked down Adejumobi's father in Osogbo with the help of the Nigerian consulate, said Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Ray Kelly.
More than a decade earlier, Adejumobi had studied for an undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati. He was a senior-to-be in 2004 when he came to UC Berkeley for a summer to research under a National Science Foundation program, according to Luca Trevisan, a professor at UC Berkeley who mentored Adejumobi,
"This is very sad news. I remember him well," Trvisan said. "About five years ago, in 2009, he got in touch again by email. Apparently he had suffered from mental health problems and had dropped out of school in Cincinnati" he added.
