Buhari implores Nigerians to patronize made in Nigeria goods

President Buhari has implored Nigerians to patronize made in Nigeria goods. He made this call today Monday October 10th while speaking at the 22nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, where he stated that increasing local production of goods and services will not only create jobs for the youths but move Nigeria from an import-based to an export-based economy. “My greatest desire is that Nigeria moves from import dependence to self-sufficiency in local production and become an export-led economy in goods and services. I am delighted that your theme is: ‘Made in Nigeria’ which lies at the heart of so many efforts we are making to lead us through this trouble times and lay a firm foundation for the future. As I have said in the past, we need to diversify the economy so that we will never again have to rely on one commodity to survive as a country. So that we can produce the food we eat, make our own textiles, produce most of the things we use and create the right environment for our youth to be able to benefit and create jobs through technology. This has been the commitment and the mandate of this administration and I have remain focus on it since the assumption of this administration Fortunately, we have champions of made in Nigeria that have defied the odds over the years to produce locally and contribute to our economy. I hope by the end of this you will make useful and realistic recommendations and policies.” he said.

Recession: Lagos to introduce monthly payment on houses

In a bid to cushion the effects of economic recession in the country, the Lagos State Government has perfected plans to introduce monthly payment plan on its Home Ownership Mortgage Schemes popularly called Lagos HOMS across the State. The State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, who stated this after embarking on an extensive inspection tour of projects across the State, said his administration has decided to scale up the rent-to-own policy by introducing monthly payment plan whereby people can pay monthly instead of being compelled to make a down payment of 30 percent of the total cost or pay for one year. "We believe strongly that people should be able to pay one month rent and live in our housing schemes. We don't think in a recession, we should be having a situation where we allow people to come and buy when they don't have money or to come and pay one year rent. We think the way to move forward is to allow these our younger ones to just pay one month deposit and pay one month rent and move into the houses and then more or less play up our rent-to-own scheme,” Governor Ambode said. While speaking on the pocket-friendly initiatives of his administration on housing, Governor Ambode said the State Government has taken time to review its mortgage schemes vis-à-vis its financial flow, adding that many ongoing housing schemes have reached advanced stages of completion, and that they would be rolled out in a matter of months. The Governor, who inspected the Illubirin Housing Scheme in Lagos Island, said government, in partnership with private sector, is making arrangement to transform the scheme into a live, work and play environment. “In addition to that, the other housing projects that we are doing are on course and I want to assure Lagosians that in the next few months, we will be seeing a whole lot of housing units being rolled out," the Governor said. On his part, the State's Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal, debunked insinuation that the Illubirin Housing Scheme had been abandoned, saying that government was rather working to improve on the project which is sitting on 28 hectares. He recalled how the project started under the administration of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with sand filling, while his predecessor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola carried on with the project. He said: "Now, under the administration of Governor Ambode, we want to scale it up and the idea is to make this place a live, play and work environment and so we are projecting 500 units instead of the 1,260 that the scheme was formerly designed for. We believe government funds should be deployed to some other sites that we are working on and to also come up with new designs and new buildings and so instead of government to recapitalize this project, we are working with the private sector and the investor that has come up is investing about $500 million." According to Lawal, about five hectares of the Illubirin scheme would be dedicated for leisure, while there would also be commercial activities, as well as flyover which would be constructed. He said the State Government is already working with the Federal Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Waterfront in that regard, adding that the flyover would be on another phase. He also said that all the phases of the scheme are expected to span between five to seven years, but that there would be a lot of improvement on the project before May 2019. Governor Ambode also inspected the ongoing construction of a lay-by and slip road into Isheri Olowora at Berger bus-stop.

Davido“I will never leave Africa for anywhere” [Full Interview] "I love this my African thing. I love it. I will never leave Africa for nowhere. Ever!" - Davido

Davido’s new interview with Pulse reveals a lot about the state of the singer’s affairs. The DMW boss who signed to Sony Music in January 2015, is working on releasing his debut EP, “Son Of Mercy”, which is now available for pre-order on iTunes. A single off the EP ‘Gbagbe oshi’ is currently being promoted for the local market, and he talks to Pulse about his new phase so far. The conversation which took place at the premiere of his new video, has been transcribed and edited below. On Absence From Music: Why are people saying it’s taken forever, infact, shey na only me never drop? Abeg, make them free me. I was cool, I was travelling, I doing things, I was recording, I was living life, I was in America. It kind of was very fast for me, because I was moving so much, I was just setting up plays. I was setting up plays for the future. On Sony Music Deal:I was hyped that they came to me. When they told me that this is going to happen, it’s a sacrifice that I had to make. I did so much in four years, I did a lot, every award, I have it. You will see, I can’t explain, you gotta see the work. At least I don’t have to pay for my videos again. I’m always thinking: ‘spending $250,000 on one video, that’s what I’ll never do. That’ll just take it to another level. I have creative control, it’s a joint thing. Most times, whatever I send them, they are ready to go. On “Son Of Mercy” EP: The point of the EP is just to put out as much music as possible. Anyway I can put out music, I will do it. Before you drop albums, they allow you drop the EP, so I said ‘Yo let’s do it’. I had options to just wait, drop the single, then drop the EP. I was like ‘no let me just drop the EP’. All of my international collaborations Usher, Future, Popcaan, Young Thug, and more are on the album. Everything is on the album. Think about it, the end of the year is here. Why release all my missiles now, and the next year everybody turns over a new leaf? So I’m coming, doing my African thing for now, giving them the Tinashe record, so let them feel that for now, next year, just come through. That’s why I had to do this EP. I can’t do what they are doing better than them, and they can’t do what I am doing better than me. So I just have to do this EP, and drop it down. On African Music International Spotlight: Davido play Davido I think a lot of people are going to get signed, coming soon. But trust me, there’s work ahead of us. It’s like I’m starting again. That’s how it feels, that’s what they keep telling me. They say: ‘Yo David, we understand that you have this and that, and you are big. But you gotta start again.’ When they are interviewing me, they aren’t saying ‘Yo Davido’, they are asking ‘What’s your name? Explain Afrobeats to me?’. So it’s like starting again. But it’s cool, Im just 23 years. On Starting Davido Music Worldwide: I needed a new space, found these new boys, and I’m like, let’s go. Do far, it’s been lovely. I’m proud of them, they are doing so well. On Judging His Success As A Person: (I was successful) since last year! From last year I dey think all those ones. I bad! For me it’s just to keep going, help other people, drop the album, destroy. I love this my African thing. I love it. I will never leave Africa for nowhere. Ever!

This year's Lagos leg of the tour which held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Hard Rock Cafe was turnt not just because it was an MTV Party or because the drinks were free, it was the music and the way it was delivered. Lights, DJs and illustations Before the show kicked off, there was a press conference where the final list of the MAMA nominees reveals nominations in seven award categories including Artist of the Year, Best Female and Song of The Year. As guest arrived for the party, MTV Base refreshed guests with canapé , a never ending well of drinks and music. It was a very visual event - graffiti artist Osa gave people something to look at and bowl over as he brought to life inscriptions on a blank white canvas. There were mini TV screens showing moving animations positioned around the ground floor provided visuals to go with the music.
