Ghanaian Refugee who lost fingers while crossing the border finally wins bid to stay in Canada

Talk about resilience and determination! Razak Iyal, a refugee who lost all his fingers to frostbite after walking into Canada on Christmas Eve, has now won his bid to stay in Canada. In December, Iyal and his friend, Seidu Mohammed (a bisexual Ghanaian man), walked through snowy farmers' fields to get to Manitoba, fearing deportation in the United States, where they had been living. "I'm happy because if I go back to Ghana, I might lose all my life. But here I am, I just lost my fingers, but I'm still part of the society. I can do a lot of things that the people who have the fingers can do," Iyal said. Iyal also revealed that he feared death at the hands of his own siblings, who he says are trying to kill him over a dispute regarding his late father's estate.He also says he was facing threats of jail, torture and possibly death from a powerful member of Parliament representing his region, and expressed further concern after Ghanaian media falsely identified him as a gay man for being friends with Mohammed.Iyal and Mohammed's harrowing story of survival attracted international attention and shone a light on the wave of asylum seekers fleeing the United States.

Two women suspected to be involved in artificially colouring oranges to boost their sales have been arrested for questioning and possible prosecution by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana According to the FDA, the police conducted a raid at the Madina market last Tuesday after photos and video of a woman dipping oranges into a colouring solution was circulated on social media. In the viral video below, a woman can be visibly seen with two big bowls, one a colouring solution and the other full of ripe oranges. She then dipped the oranges in the solution and waits for some minutes for the fruit to turn deep yellow. It's believed the colour makes the fruit eye-pleasing enough to attract customers. However, FDA says the colouring is "suspicious" and have condemned the practice.

A young man was made to lie in muddied water and roll around in it after he was caught allegedly trying to steal mobile phones from a boutique in Ajogodo, Sapele, Delta State. A mob surrounded him while he was in the dirty water, slapping him across the face and threatening to call the police. In a video shared by Sapele Oghenek, the slightly built man can be seen begging for mercy. The incident occured yesterday, just close to the boutique where he was caught. See the video below...

Billionaire kidnapper, Evans weeps uncontrollably in police custody.

Billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudemeje George Onwuamadike alias Evans, who was arrested last weekend, has been weeping uncontrollably in a maximum police cell where he is now being held with other common criminals. Police sources say Evans who has been accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, is finding it had to adjust to the harsh environmental conditions within the police cell. Speaking to The Nation, a police source said “He has been weeping uncontrollably because he is in a cell with common poor criminals despite all the wealth and mansions he owned. He has started talking. He has given us locations of other detention camps he had in Lagos. Aside Igando, he had two others and detectives would visit the place. He also said that his very first robbery was in Sokoto State and that they killed the victim. He is still being interrogated and more details would come out after the camps have been visited.” Evans was excommunicated from Nnewi for over five years because of the atrocities he committed in the community. He has confessed to collecting huge sums of money as ransom from his victims, some of them paying as much as $1 million.

24-hours after the devastating fire in London's North Kensington, the death toll has risen from the initial 6 to 17 people and firefighters are still working to dampen the blaze and search for bodies. London's fire commissioner Dany Cotton this morning revealed that there is "genuinely" no idea when it comes to the estimating the total number of missing people. She also admitted that it we be an "absolute miracle" if there was still anyone alive in the tower and that it would take "weeks" to complete a proper search with the building still unstable. At the moment, the final death toll is still unknown and there's no fixed number on missing persons.

The mother of Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, the notorious billionaire kidnapper recently arrested in Lagos, has gone into hiding after news of her son's arrest reached their hometown of Umudim in Nnewi, Anambra state. Evans mother who is popularly called Lady Nwosu was described by Vanguard as a no-nonsense woman. It was gathered that she assists vendors in selling their wares for a commission. Though there were reports that Evans' mother knew he was a criminal and he even bought her a car, the reality at the Umudim village seemed to tell a different story as it was discovered that Lady Nwosu only rides a motorcycle popularly called Nwanyi Nnewi. Lady Nwosu has not been seen at the canteen where she sells since Tuesday, Vanguard reports. A woman told the paper that Lady Nwosu went into hiding after people began coming in to sympathise with her over her son's arrest. The woman who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “She went into hiding because people were trooping in to sympathise with her over the arrest of her son. Some came for a different purpose; to make mockery of her and to see the face of the mother of the arrested kidnapper. Even you newsmen were troubling her. She has been crying since news of the arrest reached her. I do not know where she has gone to but I think it is good for her.” Her disappearance coincided with the disclosure by the Obi of Evans' village of Umudim, Chief Benneth Okafor, that the arrested kidnap kingpin was not known in his community as he hardly visited home, neither did he have any investment in the community.

Hillary Clinton has come out to criticize President Donald Trump's handling of recent terror attacks in London saying that "we are not living in normal times. This is not a time to lash out, to incite fear, or to use tragedy and terror for political gain". Clinton made the speech at a fundraiser for an organization that builds ties between African-American and Jewish youths. In a clear reference to Trump's tweets Sunday and Monday criticizing London Mayor Sadiq Khan, she said: "It's a time for steady, determined leadership like we are seeing from local authorities in London, including the mayor of London." Clinton also addressed recent racially motivated attacks in Oregon and Maryland saying, 'at a time when anti-Semitic hate crimes are on the rise when Americans, Muslims, African-Americans, Latinos are being targeted for racism; when violence motivated by hatred from Portland, Oregon, to College Park, ends the lives of young Americans, this program's vision of spreading tolerance is more urgent than ever".

Nigerian father of three and nursing student, Nicholas Ozoechi Nwonye was stabbed to death in Canada, an attack the police say was random and unprovoked. Nwonye was on his way home from Hersak’s lecture hall when the deadly attack took place, at 6:45 p.m. on the westbound platform of the City Hall LRT station in downtown Calgary last Friday night, June 2. Stabbed in the chest and abdomen by a man he’d never met, Nwonye was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He only recently moved to Canada with his wife and three children from Nigeria, and was only four weeks into his nursing program before his tragic death. A man accused of the fatal stabbing was caught by the police as he attempted to flee the scene in an eastbound train. Keeton Michel Gagnon, 39, (pictured) has been charged with second-degree murder. He will next appear in court on Friday, June 23, 2017. Gagnon has a long criminal history with police in British Columbia dating back two decades, reports CBS. He is a career criminal with dozens of convictions including assault with a weapon, robbery, escaping custody, and many breaches. Friends have described the deceased as a kind person who, even in the briefest of moments, left an indelible impression. “He was just such a treat to have there,” said Rhonda Hersak, an instructor at Bow Valley College, where Nwonye was enrolled in the school’s practical nursing program. "He was a very kind, empathetic individual. He smiled all the time." Hersak remembered Nwonye as a deeply spiritual man whose faith formed a large part of his life. "Being the only male in the class, Nwonye brought a unique insight, Hersak said — laughing as she described him being responsible for the creation of some “pleasant controversy” during in-class discussions. Despite only being a student for a short time, Hersak said Nwonye made a definite impression, both on his fellow students and the faculty. “He had an impact. He had a really big impact in the classroom,” she said. "He will be missed in the classroom. I know this for a fact." The deceased's wife, Ugonna Nwonye described her husband as a righteous man. "He was a righteous man" she said. "That means he was good in every aspect of life----spiritual and physical." "He was a good father'. I 've never seen his kind before....he was too good" she added. Former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has died aged 30 after collapsing during training in China. In his seven years at United the Ivory Coast player made over 150 appearances, including three last season. He joined Chinese second-tier side Beijing Enterprises from Newcastle in February. "It is with deep sadness I confirm that Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training," said spokesman Emanuele Palladino. "We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family's privacy be respected at this difficult time. We ask for all your prayers." Born in the Ivory Coast, Tiote was part of the Ivorian squad that won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He began his professional career in Belgium with Anderlecht in 2005 before moving to Dutch side FC Twente, where he made 86 appearances and won the Eredivisie league title in the 2009-10 season under manager Steve McClaren. Tiote, a defensive midfielder, then signed for Newcastle in 2010 for £3.5m. In February 2011, he scored a memorable goal as Newcastle United came back from 4-0 down to draw with Arsenal in the Premier League. He joined Beijing Enterprises Group FC for an undisclosed fee in February 2017. 'A true professional and above all a great man' A statement from Newcastle said: "We are devastated to have learnt of the tragic passing of Cheick Tiote at the age of just 30. WtF/Boy kills his best friend for liking a Facebook photo of his girlfriend

15-year-old Alex Pititto is facing life in jail for shooting to death his best friend in Italy. Alex (pictured left ) fatally shot 19-year-old Francesco Prestia (pictured right) because he liked a photo of his girlfriend on Facebook, this, he interpreted as a sign of disrespect. Alex is the son of 'Ndrangheta mafia boss Salvatore Pititto, known as 'El Tio', or the Uncle. He had long suspected his friend of having feelings for his girlfriend so when he saw the Facebook like, he called his friend to a meeting in a remote field and gunned him down. Francesco was left dead in an olive field in Mileto, Italy, with three bullets in his chest. Alex later turned himself in to police and led them to the olive grove where he had left his friend's body. Before the fallout which led to him killing his friend, Alex had been so close to Francesco and recently shared a photo of them with another friend on Facebook, with the caption: “Friendship is something in the mouth of everybody, but in the heart of not too many people."

Dammy Krane has allegedly been arrested in the United States over alleged theft of credit card and a car, reports not yet very confirmed say. The news as currently having the social media abuzz claimed the singer whose real name is Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel was arrested alongside another Nigerian, Ilochonwu Chukwuebuka Gabriel in Dade County, Miami and was equally detained for identity theft. According to Instablog9ja which broke the news first, the singer who is currently based in the United States was booked today, June 2, and is still in jail pending when he meets up with the bail requirements. Nigerian singer Dammy Krane allegedly arrested in U.S over theft Dammy Krane left 2baba Idibia’s Hypertek Digital, the record label where he reeled out his hit songs, including ‘Incasity’ and ‘Kalamity’, for Davido’s DMW just few weeks ago. He got signed to 2baba’s company in 2012, when he was only 20, and left for Davido’s label in September 2016. However, no official statement from his musical team or friends has been made as to confirming the authenticity or otherwise of the news. But, a mugshot having the face of the singer shows his details and the crime allegedly committed entered in preparation for him to be jailed.

The management of Continental Broadcasting Service, owners of Television Continental, TVC, this morning sacked 145 members of its staff. TVC is owned by National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu. Among the reason for the mass sack is over bloated workforce and high over head cost. The media house in its downsizing, also shut down one of its TV station which is the TVC News Africa. The photo above shows the sacked workers being addressed by the management just before they were dismissed. They were however paid their entitlements as they were disengaged.

Since sharing that photo of a bloody severed head resembling Trump, Kathy Griffin has received criticism from all angles and now, she intends to hold a press conference today to explain the motivation behind the image. Asides that, she will also talk about the bullying she claims to have endured from the Trump family. Griffin's lawyer, Lisa Bloom, who was hired by the comedian in the wake of the photo controversy, announced on Twitter on Thursday that Griffin would be holding a press conference at 9 a.m. in her Los Angeles office. Griffin was criticized by everyone, including former first daughter, Chelsea Clinton, and even Griffin's goof friend and co-host, Anderson Cooper who referred to the photo as "appalling" and "disgusting."President Trump and his family also condemned Griffin after seeing the photo, stating that there were children in their family who were traumatized by it. Trump's son, Don Jr., his daughter-in-law, Lara, and the first Lady, Melania, all condemned Griffin. Their public condemnation of her is probably what Griffin meant when she said she was bullied by the Trump family. Before CNN banned Griffin, Don Jr., tweeted: "Dear @CNN, I must have missed your statement banning your commentator #KathyGriffin from future shows. Please resend. Thx." Don Jr. also brought up his two oldest children in one tweet, writing: "And I'm counting down having to explain it to my 8 and 10 year olds who I'm sure will see/hear about it at school." President Trump also wrote something along the same line. He tweeted: "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. Toyin Abraham, formerly Aimakhu, opened up about a few secrets in her life in a new interview with Broadway TV. The actress spoke about her fight with depression in 2016, use of drugs and codeine (which she has since stopped), the breakdown of her marriage to Adeniyi Johnson and moving on from the negativity in life. On the negative sides of her life she was tired of, Toyin replied; "I didn't plan for a broken home, I didn't plan for a broken marriage. But when it came, there were so many negativities and I was emotionally carried away. I didn't heal before jumping into another relationship. I thought I was going to be healed through another relationship and I realized I truly don't love myself and I want people around to love me. Then I think I wasn't focusing on the things that really matter, but on the things that don't matter. I chose people before me. I didn't love myself enough. I was losing touch with things that use to work for me because I was involved in negative habits; like drugs, smoking, codeine..all those things were empowering my negative energy. Sometimes even when I do something very good and positive, it would just end being negative. So I had to stop." On what changed Toyin said; " I realized I deserved more. I focused more on bigger pictures. I decided to change my team, few people around me and my negative habits. I stopped doing a lot of bad things that brings out the negative energy in me." On whether she sought professional help and what changed her as of late; She replied "Of course, I sought for help. I changed some people and friends around me. I had to stop my negative habits. I worked on the negativity around me. I tried to be positive and I had to deal with depression and drugs." On whether her battle is over, Toyin replied; "Yes, the battle is 100% over. but like life itself, we need to always discipline ourselves so we Would be a better person. I have left my past behind and I'm looking forward to the future. That's why IO agreed to change my name. Initially my family wanted everyone to change their name but I said no, because of my brand (Laughs).. And God showed himself to me. So I changed my name to Abraham. I owe it to God Almighty for giving me another chance and to my fans for always supporting me" When asked to disclose the name of the person who introduced her to drugs, she said; "My friend, but truthfully she's actually changed too. I was able to change her. I needed it that time because I felt the rouble was too much last year. It started and stopped last year It was too much for me. I was not in control of my life anymore. It was a bad experience, terrible one." On whose fault is it that her marriage is over, Toyin replied; "I'm not going to blame anybody because it takes two to tangle. Trump seems to be alone in his decision to pull the US out of Paris climate change accord as no one is openly supporting him on that. Various city mayors have criticized him for that decision, one of who is the mayor of Pittsburgh. Bill Peduto trolled President Donald Trump for mentioning his city to justify the decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement on climate change on Thursday... Trump, while revealing that the US will withdraw from the accord, explained that he was elected to represent Pittsburg, not Paris and this got him the wrath of the city's mayor who replied Trump with a tweet. "I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris," Trump said. Bill Peduto, a Democrat, tweeted on Thursday that "it's now up to cities to lead" following the president's announcement at a White House news conference moments earlier. Peduto, together with 60 other mayors, vowed to defy Trump by abiding by the terms of the accord and making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in spite of Trump administration's withdrawal. Brandy lost consciousness on a Delta Airlines flight at LAX this morning and was rushed to a hospital. Police said officers and firefighter-paramedics responded to a report of a person who was "unconscious or almost unconscious" shortly after boarding a Delta Airlines plane and it turned out to be the singer. She was taken to a hospital though she was fully conscious by the time she was escorted onto the jetway. According to a report from TMZ, Brandy fainted on the plane, which was set to fly to New York's JFK International Airport, and passengers and flight attendants scrambled to help her before the airline called 911. Paramedics then arrived on the scene, removed her from the plane then treated her on the jetway, where she regained consciousness before she was transported to a hospital, Brandy shared a selfie on Snapchat about two hours before her flight and she looked to be in good health. She was set to appear with her mother, Sonja Norwood, at the Atlanta Ultimate Women's Expo Saturday. The incident will not disrupt the concert as it is still set to take place.
